What this meeting is for

Three things, in order:

Diagnose — what is TOMAS actually doing with Mia, and is it working?
Align — does TOMAS know & design toward the 高認 → 医学部 path, and when do the curriculum shifts happen?
Decide — Inter-TOMAS for English, or external (Japan Tutor / Kikoku Shijo)? Eiken-focused or fluency-led?

1. Current state — what's actually being taught

Without this, every other answer is theoretical. Get specifics: textbook, level, evidence.

Must Where is Mia actually performing versus 中1 grade level in kokugo and math? Can you show recent assessments? 現在のミアの学力は中1のレベルに対してどの位置にありますか? 最近のテスト結果を見せていただけますか?
Must What textbook / curriculum is she using for each subject? Is it standard 中学 material, or customised?
Must Walk me through a typical session — how is the 2h 10m structured? What % is teaching vs. practice vs. review?
Should What homework is being set per week? What's the completion rate and quality looking like?
Should From your tutor's view, what are Mia's top 2 strengths and top 2 weaknesses right now?
Should Is it the same tutor every session, or rotating? If rotating, how do you maintain continuity?
Nice How does Mia present in sessions — engaged, withdrawn, tired? Any patterns by day or topic?

2. Trajectory — alignment with the 医学部 path

The plan is committed: TOMAS → MEDIC TOMAS via 高認 → 医学部 by 2033. The question is whether TOMAS is actively designing toward it now, or just doing 中学 catch-up in isolation.

Must You know the goal is 医学部 via 高認. Have you taught students on this exact path before? What did the timeline look like? 高認から医学部を目指すお子さんを担当されたご経験はありますか?
Must When does the curriculum shift from 中学 to 高校 level? What triggers the shift — age, mastery, calendar?
Must When and how does the transition to MEDIC TOMAS happen? Same building, different program? Different fees?
Must Math progression: when do we move from 中学数学 → 数学 I → II → III? Mia needs 数学 III for most 医学部 entrance exams.
Must When do science subjects (生物, 化学, possibly 物理) start? Med-school exams require strong biology + chemistry — building foundation early matters.
Should Are you familiar with 高認 subject requirements? Beyond kokugo and math she'll need 社会 (歴史 / 地理 / 公民), 理科, and 英語. Who covers these?
Should Is the curriculum aligned with 共通テスト structure, or are we focused only on individual university 医学部 exams?
Nice Looking at her current trajectory, what's your realistic view of the 2033 医学部 timeline? What would have to change to make it tight?

3. Inter-TOMAS English & the Eiken question

Mia's English is already conversationally fluent. The need is academic / test English — different muscle. We're weighing Inter-TOMAS vs. Japan Tutor (¥5,500/hr) vs. Kikoku Shijo. Cost matters; so does fit.

Must What is Inter-TOMAS exactly — curriculum, who teaches, what materials, how much per session? インターTOMASとは具体的にどのようなプログラムですか? 教材、講師、料金を教えてください。
Must For a kid who's already fluent in spoken English but needs academic / test prep, what's your approach? You won't need to teach her how to talk — you'll need to teach her how to read dense text, write essays, learn academic vocab, parse exam grammar.
Must Is Inter-TOMAS taught by a native English speaker or a Japanese teacher of English? For test prep both work, but for academic writing and tone, native input matters.
Must For 医学部 admissions specifically, what English target should we aim for — Eiken 準1級? Eiken 1級? TOEFL? 共通テスト英語? Are we training for the right test?
Should If we did go Eiken-focused, what level is realistic now, and what's the timeline to 準1級 or 1級?
Should Can we see a sample lesson plan, sample writing assignment, and sample assessment from Inter-TOMAS?
Should Is a trial lesson available before committing?
Nice Honestly: if we wanted just cost-effective academic English alongside Tomas math/kokugo, would you say Inter-TOMAS is the right fit, or would you point us elsewhere?

4. Subject coverage gaps

Right now Tomas covers kokugo + math. 高認 needs much more. We need a clear plan for science, social studies, and English — either at TOMAS or somewhere identified.

Must Can TOMAS take on science (生物 + 化学 to start)? When? Same tutor or different specialist?
Must Can TOMAS take on 社会? At what depth — 高認-level only, or building toward 共通テスト?
Should If TOMAS doesn't cover something, do you have recommended providers you've seen work well?
Should Is there a way to do self-study with TOMAS oversight for lower-priority subjects (e.g. 社会)? Drop a problem set every other week, review it.

5. Wellbeing & fit — the floor

Mia doesn't do well in long interactive environments. The plan only works if her wellbeing holds. TOMAS is one of her main weekly contact points — they need to know what to watch for, and we need to know what they see.

Must Have you noticed signs of overload, anxiety, or fatigue? What would make you flag it to us?
Must If Mia comes in and is not feeling great on a given day, what's your protocol? Reduce intensity, switch topics, end early?
Should Given she's not in formal school, is there any mentoring / pastoral function at TOMAS — someone who knows her beyond the academic?
Should If we needed to change tutor, what's the protocol? Have other families done this and how did you handle it?

6. Operational — cost, communication, logistics

We're committing to a multi-year, multi-million-yen path. Visibility on cost trajectory and communication cadence isn't optional — it's how we manage the family budget and catch problems early.

Must Full cost breakdown: per session, per subject, materials, tests, intensives (春期 / 夏期 / 冬期講習). What's a realistic monthly and annual figure now, and at 高校 level?
Must What's the communication cadence — written progress reports, parent meetings, end-of-term reviews? Can we set a default of, say, monthly written notes?
Should What's the cancellation / makeup policy if Mia is unwell or away?
Should Are 季節講習 (seasonal intensives) optional or expected? If she skips them, what's the trade-off?
Nice If we add a third TOMAS subject (e.g. science), is there a package discount versus pricing each subject individually?

7. Strategic — get their honest view

TOMAS sees a lot of students. Asking direct, slightly uncomfortable questions surfaces information they wouldn't volunteer. Save these for the end so the rapport is built.

Should If you were planning Mia's path from scratch today, knowing what you know — what would you do differently from what we're doing?
Should What are the biggest risks you see in this plan? Where do students most often fall off the path to 医学部?
Should What are we probably not doing at home that we should be?
Nice For students who took the 高認 route rather than 通信制高校, did the lack of a HS diploma create any friction at university entrance?

After the meeting — capture before the day ends

Spend 15 minutes the same evening writing up:

Concrete numbers you got — current grade-level position, costs, timelines, target Eiken level
Decisions made — Inter-TOMAS yes/no, science added yes/no, communication cadence agreed
Open questions — anything they couldn't answer or that needs follow-up
Your gut read — does this feel like a place that's actively driving Mia's path, or one that's just delivering lessons? Your reaction matters.
